There are lots of things you might have thought you would never need to rely upon down the road – debt settlement companies, health insurance, car mechanics – but sometimes life throws you a curve ball and the only thing you can do is learn to adapt and change with the times. In some parts of the country, where the economy has hit the worst, people have started carrying guns for self-defense – some places like South Carolina, the sheriff actually encourages it, but what are some of the things any person should know before they decide to bring a potentially deadly weapon into their life?

We will start with the basics. You NEVER point a gun at anyone or anything you don’t intend to destroy. Guns are not toys and they are not to be bandied about as a tool of intimidation. The next thing you need to be aware of is that you will have to undergo a gun safety and training seminar and, most likely, a psyche evaluation.

Finally, before we wrap this up, you should remember that even after your training is complete, firing a gun in a real-life situation requires preparation so you would do well to find an area where you can train and hone your skill. It’s one thing to fire at targets, it’s quite another to shoot an actual person.

Every child should learn that guns are a great hobby but one that must be handled with upmost respect and safety. A child should learn that they should never handle a gun unless they have permission from their parents or whoever the owner of the gun maybe. Before they are allowed to handle any kind of gun the child should be given a demonstration of the safety feature, handling techniques, and unloading of each gun they handle. Knowing these items allow the child to properly check the gun or weapon for handling, storage, or cleaning.I was looking for more information and found it here.
Before approaching any gun a child should always assume that the gun is loaded and dangerous. Approaching any firearm in this manner puts the handler in a position to prevent accidental discharges. While handling any gun the safety should be on and the unloaded, checking the chamber to make sure it is completely unloaded. Where a gun barrel is being pointed at is always of great importance. A barrel should always be pointed downward towards the ground and away from any target that is not ment to be shot at. Following these simple thoughts and procedures can greatly reduce the risks of injury from firearms.

The Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 magnum was famous for a long time as the most powerful handgun in the world, it has been a while since it deserved the label, but it is still the most well-known of the top guns among those who are not enthusiasts. The bullet has a large bore, based on the 44 special, but made more powerful by the addition of a longer shell-casing, which means more gunpowder and more velocity given to the warhead. More velocity means more impact power. The Smith and Wesson .44 magnum is powerful enough to kill game as big as bison. Problems with the .44 magnum include its weight, which is 4.5lbs with no ammunition. It may not sound like a lot, but loaded, and with the force of recoil, it can be trouble for small-framed shooters.

A considerably more powerful weapon is the Smith & Wesson .500 Magnum, which can be loaded with 1 oz rounds that have the same effect as shotgun slugs. This gun was designed for the express purpose of being able to kill any North American game animal, no matter how big. This includes grizzly bears. The weight, size and recoil make it a liability in self-defense situations.

Whether it be for military, law enforcement, sport shooting, hunting or personal home defense, firearms handling practice is a critical part of safety and proficiency training. In the course of this training, it it important to bear in mind the need for hearing protection.

Repeated exposure to 9mm and .38 caliber handgun firing volumes on an unprotected ear can severely damage the eardrum, so larger sized handgun and rifle rounds can render even worse injury unless proactive measures are undertaken.

The basic types of hearing protection are either internal, or ear plug type products that fit in the ear canal, and external, or headphone type cups that rest over the outer ear and are joined together by an adjustable band. The Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is the measure of sound decibel reduction that the product will deliver.

The categories can further be divided as passive or active. Passive devices simply reduce the sound levels entering the ear. Active devices, which usually require battery power, also have microphones and/or processors to enhance quiet sounds as well as offer protection from loud sounds. These are ideal for hunters, police, and others requiring unobstructed hearing and protection at the same time. Retail prices off hearing protection range from 5.00 t0 600.0 so there are levels for every budget.

Being a responsible gun owner includes proper storage of your firearm and ammunition. Included are six basic steps for storing your gun safely.

Always keep your gun unloaded when it is stored. This is an important rule to follow even if the gun is in a locked case.

Install a safety lock on the trigger. These are available free at most law enforcement agencies or on the internet. The kit includes a safety brochure and a cable-style gun lock.

Store the gun and ammunition separately.

Keep the gun in a locked gun cabinet. Pistols can also be stored in a gun safe. Gun cabinets can be found in all sizes and at any price range.

Always keep firearms out of the reach of children. Children are adept at finding ways to access locked cabinets and safes. Discuss gun safety with your children, but never allow them to use or even handle the guns unsupervised.

When storing pistols, remove the magazine and check for ammunition that might be left in the chamber.
Remove bolts from rifles. Store the magazine or bolt separately from the gun.

Following these basic steps can keep your family safe, and provide a good example for your children.
